Weir And Yobo
Commit Futures To Everton
Joseph
Yobo and David Weir sign new contracts
David Weir and Joseph Yobo have both commited their
futures to Everton by signing new contracts. Weir has signed a
one year extension to his current deal while Yobo will commit
himself to four more years saying "I can confirm that I am
going to sign a new contract,".
"I just did
not want to rush into making any public statements.
"I wanted to focus on my football and do well for Everton.
But I had already made up my mind to stay long before the season
ended.
"It really wasn't about money. I just wanted certain
commitments from the club. Everton are a big club and we should
be challenging for a place in Europe every season.
"I see now that the club shares those ambitions and some
quality players are coming in, that's important."
Start Of Pre Season Training
Everton
squad back in training for pre season
Everton returned to pre-season training on Monday 3rd
July all except the players who were involved in the World Cup
who have been given the usual extended break. New faces at
Bellefield included new signings Joleon Lescott and Andy Johnson
who were given a warm reception, training in temperatures higher
than that of Rio, Brazil so says the radio.
The players will now head off to Exeter for a week long training camp before beginning an exciting pre season campaign which includes fixtures in America, Scotland and a curtain raiser for Howard Kendall at Goodison with a testimonial against his former club Athletic Bilbao.
Ablett
Leaves Red Faced
Academy
coach Gary Ablett joins Liverpool
Everton's academy coach and former player Gary Ablett
has left to join Liverpool and will become there new reserve team
manager. Ablet said "Some people find it hard to believe
that you have an affinity for both clubs, but I do. I honestly
do.
"When
I got the job at Everton I always told Ray Hall and Neil Dewsnip
I wanted to use it as a stepping stone to see how far I could go,
because I was really ambitious.
"I wanted to test myself and see if I could work at the
highest level ...little did I know I would use Everton as a
stepping stone to get back to Liverpool!
"But I have met some fantastic people at both clubs and I
take a lot of satisfaction at calling those people friends. I
know that will continue."
Most Evertonians remember Ablett fondly, F.A cup an all that.. most wont be arsed about him moving to Liverpool because we all knew he was more of a red anyway didn't we?... but some will see Abletts move as treachery like me, have him.
